The Count of Monte Cristo - A. Sh, Alexandre Dumas A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens

Day 26: A book that changed your opinion about something

These two books together changed my mind about reading the classics. I'd long had a list of classics, or at least a vague idea about a list, that I intended to read at some point in the hazy future. Someday. In the next few years. That had been my "plan" for nearly 20 years. Someday.

Then I read The Count of Monte Cristo - and what a rip-roaring story that was! Then a friend double-dog dared me to read A Tale of Two Cities (see Day 9), which I ended up loving.

These two amazing books changed my mind about classics - moving them from the Someday list to the Read Now list. In the last year and a half, I've read some incredible, thought-provoking books that were also wonderful, engaging stories.

All because I joined a group read on a whim, and because a friend said she loved a book. (Which is so the same as a double-dog dare, at least in my mind.)
